Ace Your Ham Radio Extra Class Exam
Licensees with a General or Advanced license can advance to Extra Class by completing a 50-question multiple-choice exam. There is no Morse code test necessary. Instead, the test covers specialized operating techniques, complex electronics theory, radio equipment design, and more obscure regulations. To obtain an Extra License, non-licensed individuals must pass written tests for Element 2, Element 3, and Element 4. According to the FCC, individuals who formerly had certain older types of licenses are eligible for exam element 3 credit.
